session prep
What to wear?
The most important thing is to find something you feel amazing in. Pair together complementary colours, use muted tones anything with movement looks amazing, so think dresses, long skirts, flowing tops. Also consider your surroundings and wear clothes that work well in that environment. If we’re at the beach, steer clear of blue or if we’re in a field don’t wear lots of green and blues. Muted colours that contrast with the environment will look the best in your images. Postie plus and Kmart have an affordable range that look really great, please do not wear branded clothing with logos on them, go for neutral and organic textures and colours as this will always remain timeless. When to book?
The best time to book your newborn session is in the morning, i find it to be the best time for baby, if their are siblings who are young this works too. it also helps free up your day afternoon. I typically schedule newborn sessions for weekends and in the evenings i book family sessions, or weekday evenings.
Prepping baby.
To prepare your baby for an in home newborn session or baby mini session, aim to keep baby awake an hour or so before the session. let them fuss, and enjoy your baby by reading, singing or bathing to stimulate your babies awake time. prepare to feed baby when I arrive that way baby will be ready for a nice long undisturbed sleep. for a full newborn session feed baby wrapped in a blanket with just a nappy on, for a mini session please feed baby in a neutral onesie or neutral outfit, keep it simple and easy to take off.
Prepping the room.
please keep the room warm, if you do not have heating, let me know and i can bring my space heater along. choosing the room is pretty easy as im not to restricted on space. sometimes a plain wall is helpful, and curtains, i ask sometimes to be drawn if the lighting wont work i will use my studio light. my studio light is a lamp with a lightbox to mimic a window, with light shining threw softly and defused. this helps for consistency in my images and helps to control the light in order to fight it if someone’s home is to dark or to much bright direct light is on us. please don’t worry about a messy home, I have four children, and between my partner and i we have five ranging from 1yr to 21yrs old so chances are your home is cleaner than mine!
Routine.
My photography routine will start with baby wrapped up in a wrap I will take a number of photos while they are settling. i will photograph siblings first, and then parent photos (depending on the session).
How long will it take before I receive my images?
It usually takes up to 3 weeks from your session however I always endeavor to have them to you as soon as possible. If for some reason this timeframe will be longer, I will advise you of the circumstances.
What happens if we get sick?
If you or your babies are sick I am more than happy to postpone the session to another day. Same goes for me. Just please give me 24 hours notice. There is no fee to reschedule your session.
Do you offer payment plans?
I understand that it can be a big outlay at one time. With this in mind, I am happy to offer payment plans. Just get in touch and I will work something out.
